Three male youths between the ages of 15 and 17 have been arrested for a series of theft of school buses at Defu Industrial Estate.

Two school buses - a 40-seater and a 20-seater - were reported stolen from the car park of Defu Lane 10 between June 26 and July 6. The doors of the buses were forced opened and the keys which were left in the ignition were used to start the buses, said the police in a statement today.

The suspects took the buses for a joy ride. One bus was later found at Buangkok Link, and the other was found at Defu Lane 9.

Police managed to establish the identities of the three suspects and arrested the trio in the vicinity of Hougang and Punggol estate on Monday.

"Preliminary investigations indicated that the trio was responsible for at least five cases of theft and attempted theft of motor vehicles. Both the buses which were stolen, have since been recovered," said the police.

The suspects will be charged in court tomorrow for Theft of Motor Vehicles. If convicted, each suspect can be jailed up to seven years.
