Portuguese football star Nani has encouraged more private entrepreneurs to invest in sport.

The Manchester United winger, who is in Singapore on a holiday, is also in the Republic to support the Peter Lim Scholarship, which is part of the Singapore Olympic Foundation.

Nani said: "It's very important what he's been doing, what he creates in a world for the kids, and it's good when you can see people like him help a lot of kids (who) don't have opportunity to grow up with a lot of facilities."

The 25-year-old also came to Singapore last year to help promote the scholarship.

His experience from last year was more than enough to draw him back to the Republic.

And he's looking for more opportunities to help connect and inspire Singapore's youth to take up sport.

"It's all about belief. One day you can be someone important in the world. When I was young, I was feeling the same thing (what) most of these kids feel the moment if I see one player, a professional player, I was feeling very excited and always dream about one day, oh imagine if it's me, if I can be a professional footballer. It's a great feeling you have when you see the kids do this thing for you like when they see you, they are very excited," he shared.
