CID officer found dead with gunshot wound

A 38-year-old police officer from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has been found dead with a gunshot wound to his head on Wednesday morning at Police Cantonment Complex.

Senior Station Inspector (SSI) Leong Shee Chun has been an Investigation Officer with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for the past 14 years and had joined the Singapore Police Force in 1991.

He was not on duty at the time of incident.

A police statement said that at about 4.41am, police had received a call from SSI Leong's family requesting for assistance as the officer was emotionally distressed.

Police officers had immediately commenced a search of the location given.

The officer was found at about 5am in his office with a gunshot wound to his head and his personal-issued service revolver beside him.

A single discharged round was found in the chamber of the revolver.

The other four rounds were found in the chamber.

The officer was pronounced dead by paramedics at 5.20am.

Police are investigating the unnatural death and no foul play is suspected.
