A 19-year-old man believed to be involved in the theft of a car was arrested when he attempted to flee a police road block along Boundary Road at 4am on July 20.

The man, who was driving a red car, had made an abrupt stop a short distance before the road block.

Sensing something amiss, police officers approached his car to conduct a check and detained him as he was attempting to flee.

Preliminary investigations indicate that suspect picked up the car key at Serangoon Garden and had used it to unlock and drive the car away.

Investigations are still ongoing. If found guilty, the suspect will be charged with theft, which carries a penalty of imprisonment for a term of up to seven years and a fine.
