It was the baby's nine year old brother, who saw the maid carrying his younger sister and getting into a taxi.

The boy alerted his foster mother, who in turn lodged a police report.

After a 30-hour search, Johor police traced the eight-month-old baby to a double-storey house in Taman Seri Jenjarom, Banting and rescued the baby, the New Straits Times reported.

Kuala Langat deputy police chief Rizani Che Ismail said initial investigations revealed that the maid, 24, from Probolinggo, East Java, had fled her employer's house in Skudai at about 6am last Sunday.

It was also learnt that the maid's husband, 47, a labourer, had gone to Skudai in a taxi to pick them up.

The maid and the husband have been arrested, the report said.

The police said the maid had been working for the victim's foster mother for the last four months.

The baby, identified as Putri Nurqaleesya Ixara Wan Mohammad, was reunited with her foster mother at the Johor Baru North Police Station on Monday night.
