A 17-year-old girl fell to her death from her 10th-floor home on Sunday (8 July).
This makes it the second case in two days that a student has died from a fatal fall.
In the latest case, the girl’s death appears to be accidental, as she was unwell and was feeling disoriented, Shin Min Daily News reported.
The girl, a polytechnic student named Angel Tan, was living at block 242, Bukit Batok East Ave 5 with her parents and older brother. At the time of the incident, Angel’s mother was on her way home to take the girl to the doctor. But when the mother arrived home around noon, the girl had already fallen. The teenager was found dressed in a vest and grey trousers.
The girl’s uncle told the paper that the girl was short-sighted and needed glasses all the time. The uncle believes that Angel misplaced her glasses, stumbled around the flat, and with a fever that was unsettling her, fell by accident.
Angel’s mother said that her daughter’s fever started on 7 July. It did not improve after a visit to the doctor. On 8 July, the mother went to see a doctor for her own ailments. She received a call from the girl saying she was vomiting, and told the girl to get dressed and wait for her to return.
When the mother arrived home, she could not find the girl in the flat, but saw her glasses. That was when she knew something was wrong and started panicking. She subsequently found out that her daughter had fallen to her death.
Angel is said to have been a cheerful and lively teenager. Before the incident, she told her mother excitedly that she intended to visit Taiwan next year.
The police said they have classified the case as “unnatural death” and will be investigating.
