Thousands turned up yesterday morning for the Jurong Lake Run 2012 and raised a total of $250,000 for seven beneficiaries.
About 4,800 runners took part in the 10km run, followed by another 3,000 runners who participated in the AIA 6km L.I.F.E. Run. Afterwards, an additional 4,200 people took part in the 3km Community Walk-a-Jog.
Another 3,000 people joined the Carnival@JLR12 at Chinese Garden, which was held to promote healthy living and bringing people of different ages, races and living across all estates together.
The money raised at the event went to the Singapore Children's Society, Children's Cancer Foundation, Loving Hearts Multi-Service Centre, Singapore Association for Mental Health, Aspiration Wan Qing Lodge, Lakeside Family Centre, and Concern & Care Neighbourhood Link.
Set to become a nationwide running event, JLR was initiated and continues to be organised by youth volunteers from the Taman Jurong Community Sports Club.
This is the second time that the Jurong Lake Run is being held. More than 6,500 people took part in the first run which was held in 2011.
