Peugeot car salesman jailed 15 months for embezzling $241,600

A sales executive with AutoFrance, Hee Wan Pin, 39, was jailed 15 months on Wednesday for criminal breach of trust.

AutoFrance is the sole distributor for Peugeot cars here.

Hee had used money received from clients for instalments on their car loans for his personal expenses.

The salesman also pocketed money that was received from helping customers to sell off their existing cars when they purchased a Peugeot. The money was meant to go towards payment of the new car.

Hee misappropriated a total of $241,600 between July 2009 and February 2010 from selling six cars.

His lawyer, Mr P.O. Ram, pleaded for a lighter sentence, as he had made restitution of $100,000.

The district court allowed Hee to start his jail term on Monday, as his father had suffered a fall and was warded at Changi General Hospital. Hee wanted to spend more time with his dad, said Mr Ram.
