Incinerator in Tuas catches fire early Sunday morning

A large incinerator in a waste management plant in Tuas caught fire early Sunday morning, but none of the employees onsite were hurt.

A spokesman for the Singapore Civil Defence Force said that they received a call around 12.50am about the fire at the premises of Eco SWM. Three fire engines with support appliances managed to extinguish the fire within 30 minutes.

According to an eyewitness, technicians on duty were transporting oil sludge into a funnel leading to the incinerator when they heard three loud explosive bangs.

Bright orange flames then started shooting out of the funnel. The technicians quickly activated the alarm and dashed out of the control room.
