Crest Secondary School, the first of two Specialised Schools for Normal (Technical) students, will start classes from January next year.
The school will be located in Jurong East and will be ready by the fourth quarter of 2012. It will enroll 200 students for its first intake.
In the subsequent years, there will also be places set aside for mainstream schools students who wish to transfer mid-stream to Crest Secondary School.
The school will offer English and Mathematics as part of a four-year N(T) secondary school education, similar to other secondary schools and students will graduate with GCE N(T)-level qualifications.
While the school will offer N(T) English and Mathematics like other secondary schools, there will be emphasis on building a strong foundation in literacy and numeracy and citizenship and character education.
The school will have the flexibility of customising its teaching approach to suit the learning styles of its students. As such, the curriculum emphasis will be on skills-based activities and practical learning in a real-world context or workplace setting.
The school will also tie-up with the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) that will allow students to take ITE taster modules at lower secondary, before specialising in an ITE Skills Certification (ISC) at upper secondary.
They will be able to specialise in one of four areas: facility services, mechanical servicing, retail services or hospitality services.
The school board will be headed by Mr Choe Peng Sum, Chief Executive Officer of Frasers Hospitality.
