Women, aged between 25 and 69, will benefit from subsidised breast cancer and free cervical cancer screenings, as part of a collaboration between the National Healthcare Group (NHG) and Singapore Cancer Society.
The society is offering free Pap smear and a S$10 mammogram subsidy. The subsidy is valid at the NHG's nine polyclinics and will enable women to pay only S$40 for the mammogram.
The initiative, which ends in March next year, seeks to make screenings affordable and help women detect both breast and cervical cancers earlier.
Breast cancer is the top killer among women here, with 1,556 women diagnosed with the disease and about 370 deaths each year.
Thanks to greater awareness and wider outreach efforts, the number of women who participated in the programme increased from 900 in 2009 to 2,548 last year.
This year, the joint effort is targeting 3,000 women for breast screening.
Should the demand be higher, NHG says it will extend the subsidy.
