BREAKING: Taxi caught fire in CTE tunnel this morning; massive traffic jam

A taxi caught fire in a tunnel on the Central Expressway (CTE) this morning, causing the tunnel to be closed and traffic diverted, and a massive traffic jam along the expressway.

The Kampong Java tunnel was closed so that the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) could put out the fire and remove the vehicle. Traffic on the CTE towards the AYE was diverted to the exit on Bukit Timah Road.

No injuries were reported. The driver of the taxi had gotten out of the taxi before the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) arrived, and the fire was put out within 15 minutes of the SCDF's arrival.

Eyewitnesses said the fire filled the tunnel with smoke, making it hard for other drivers to see. The SCDF said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
