Video: Police officer shot during traffic stop

NOT ACTUAL IMAGE
Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper, Cpl. Shane Stewart was injured when he and another trooper stopped a vehicle about 10 p.m. Saturday.

The passenger in the front seat subsequently fired at Stewart, who was struck in the neck while talking to another occupant outside the car.

The troopers returned fire, killing the suspect who fired the weapon at Stewart. The driver and two passengers were arrested while one suspect is hospitalized, police said.

Stewart's injuries are not life-threatening, Trooper Clark Parrott said. He emphasized the need for police to be prepared for dangerous situations.

"We put a bullet proof vest on and a gun everyday we go to work," Parrott said. "Not everybody is cut out to be in law enforcement. In the back of our minds we realize it could happen at any time."
