Amid speculation that head coach Steven Tan's job was on the line, Tampines Rovers turned on the style to record their first win of the S-League season on Friday night.
An Aleksandar Duric hat-trick helped the defending champions to a 4-0 win over Woodlands Wellington, but the veteran striker's mood after the match was one of relief rather than jubilation.
'We needed this win badly,' the 41-year-old admitted. 'It's a win to lift our spirits and hopefully you'll see the old Tampines of the past few years.'
The position of former Singapore international Tan, who led the Stags to the S-League crown in his first season in charge, was said to be in jeopardy after the side's winless start to the season - which included a 1-3 reverse away to Hong Kong's Kitchee SC in the AFC Cup.
