India made a disastrous start to their AFC Challenge Cup defence as they lost 0-2 to Tajikistan.
The Indian side began the proceedings on an attacking note and had a great chance to take the lead but, Sunil Chhetri failed to capitalise on a through pass from Sushil Kumar Singh in the 15th minute.
After a barren but evenly contested first half, the Indians let in two goals after the hour mark with Akhtam Khamrakulov (60th minute) and Nuriddin Davronov (66th) finding the target for Tajikistan in the Group B match at Dasarath Deb Stadium in Kathmandu.
In another Group B match, North Korea beat Philippines 2-0 at Halchowk Stadium.
