Podolski close to joining Arsenal

Cologne striker Lukas Podolski was also targeted by Arsenal during the January transfer window but, with his contract expiring next year, the expectation is that he will be available at the end of the season for about £16 million (S$31.7 million).

No fee has been agreed yet between Arsenal and Cologne, but it is understood that Podolski is keen on the option of playing in the Premier League.

Podolski has been in outstanding form this season in the Bundesliga, scoring 15 goals and providing four assists in 19 appearances. His versatility as either an out-and-out striker, or playing to the left of the main forward as he did during the World Cup, would certainly provide fresh options to Arsenal and crucial back-up to Robin van Persie.
