Man molested 13 yr old niece, to take revenge against her parents

The unemployed man had earlier grabbed the $1,100 iPhone from a woman in a lift at a Housing Board block in Bukit Batok last June.

Four days later, he went to meet his brother’s wife, her young son and the niece at Orchard Cineleisure.

When the sister-in-law took the boy to the toilet, he cooked up a story to get the girl on her own. Saying that Criminal Investigation Department officers were chasing him, he ordered the girl to run.

When they got to Lucky Plaza, he told her they were going to meet her mother at Fort Canning Park. They then took a cab to Canning Rise, where he bought and drank a can of beer.

Once inside the park, he pulled her into a cubicle in the men’s toilet, locked the door and forced her to take off her clothes. He threatened to get others to attack her as well, saying: “You want me to finish you by one person or many persons?” She wanted to know what he was doing, and he told her: “Punishment.”

When she struggled, he threatened to pay a group of Thai men to take her away.

Frightened, the girl started taking off her clothes. Her uncle forcibly removed her jeans and underwear and molested her. He told her to sit on the toilet bowl, took off his own clothes and molested her again. The attack ended only after she cried and begged him to stop.

She got dressed and ran out, but he caught up with her. He said he blamed her parents for making him homeless and had taken his revenge on them.

The uncle, who cannot be named to avoid identifying the victim, pleaded guilty last month to aggravated outrage of modesty and snatch theft. He was jailed for a total of six years and two months, including six strokes of the cane. Two other charges were taken into consideration during sentencing.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Yang Ziliang said the girl was deeply traumatised and had suffered psychological and mental harm (as a result of the attack).

In her victim impact statement, she said she had “become cautious towards any male person” and has “difficulty trusting people”.
