More help will soon be at hand for people who wish to represent themselves in court as they can turn to a new Community Justice Centre, to be operational later this year.
The new centre is established by the Subordinate Courts, in collaboration with the Ministry of Law, Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, the Law Society of Singapore and Tan Chin Tuan Foundation.
It's expected to be a one-stop hub that will provide greater integration of legal aid and social assistance to litigants-in-person (LIPs) or defendants.
Services available at the centre include legal clinics and practical support services to help LIPs prepare court documents and applications.
The move is in light of the growing number of accused who choose to represent themselves in court.
Currently, those who want to represent themselves in court can turn to the two HELP -- or Helping to Empower Litigants-in-Person -- Centres located at the Subordinate Courts Complex.
