Two youths arrested in Serangoon for loanshark harassment

Two 14-year-old Chinese youths have been arrested for suspected involvement in loan shark harassment.

The incident took place on Feb 18 at about 10.10pm in the vicinity of Serangoon Avenue 4.

The police were alerted to a case of loan shark harassment in the area but the suspects had left by the time the police arrived at the scene.

Investigations revealed that the suspects were believed to have carried out loan shark harassment in the vicnity of Serangoon Avenue 4 and Serangoon North Avenue 1.

After further investigations, both youths were detained separately at Serangoon Avenue 4 and Serangoon Central.

Loan shark-related items like spray paint and a mobile phone believed to contain debtors' records were found on one of the youths.

The suspects will be charged in court on Feb 20.

If guilty, first-time offenders may face up to five years in jail, fined between $5,000 and $50,000, and caned between three and six times.
