Masked man who molested victim through window convicted and jailed

A man has been jailed for molesting a sleeping woman through her bedroom window.

Chen Wei Jie, 32, had molested a 26-year-old teacher, while she was sleeping in her bungalow home on 14 September, 2011.

The woman had left her bedroom window open for ventilation when she went to sleep that evening.

At about 3.15am, she was startled awake when she felt someone touching her.

A man, wearing a purple coloured towel to cover his face, was groping her breasts, legs and groin from outside her window.

Instead of screaming, she remained composed and asked the man what he was trying to do.

The man, Chen, replied that he only wanted to chat with her.

Thinking she could somehow nab the molester, the woman started chatting with Chen and even invited him to climb into her house through her window.

She had hoped to lure him into the house and nab him by locking him inside her father's room on the second floor of the bungalow.

However, while Chen was going upstairs with her, he seemed to realise something was wrong and he jumped out the window and fled.

The woman immediately alerted the police.

Chen was arrested at about 1.30pm at Tanjong Penjuru in the West Coast area on the same day, about ten hours after the crime.

Despite repeatedly insisting in court that he had no intention of molesting the woman, Chen has been sentenced yesterday (24 Feb) to 4 years in prison.
