LA school replaces entire staff after two teachers alleged of lewd conduct

The entire staff of Miramonte Elementary school will be removed while the school district is investigating two teachers suspected of lewd conduct.

One teacher, Mark Berndt, 61, was arrested late last month.

Berndt had taught for more than 30 years at the school in east Los Angeles, and was charged last week for committing lewd acts on nearly two dozen children, prosecutors said.

He allegedly took photos of blindfolded and gagged students with roaches on their faces and spoons of semen to their mouths.

The second teacher, Martin Springer, was arrested last week on suspicion of fondling two young girls in his classroom.

The move to replace the entire teaching staff is intended to build confidence of families of the students. More than a quarter of students were absent from school on Monday.
