FAM bans 18 players for match-fixing

Just two weeks after nine players from Malaysian Premier League side Perlis admitted contact with a bookmaker before a heavy defeat, 18 President's Cup players have now been sanctioned for their part in match-fixing last season.

After an exco meeting yesterday, Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) deputy president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah announced that the Under-20 players have been handed suspensions ranging from two to five years.

The 18 footballers, whose names will be revealed on Wednesday, comprise six each from Negeri Sembilan, T-Team and MP Muar, and the length of their ban was determined by their level of involvement in the fix.

One President's Cup coach has also been banned for life.
