Currently, there are about 40,000 students who benefit from MOE's financial assistance scheme, under which the students will be fully subsidised for their school fees, uniforms and textbooks, and receive a 75 per cent subsidy on their exam fees.
Last Friday, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam had announced that the current household income ceiling of S$1,500 will be raised to S$2,500. The move will double the number of beneficiaries to 80,000.
