S'pore may tap Malaysian electricity, if terms are right

Singapore may import electricity from Malaysia, if the terms are right, the prime ministers of Singapore and Malaysia announced yesterday.

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong was receptive to the proposal, which he broached at the Malaysia-Singapore Leaders' Retreat held yesterday.

Singapore would be "very open" to the proposal if the terms were right, Mr Lee said at a joint press conference after the high-level meeting between the two countries' leaders in Putrajaya.

He added that Singapore was working on a framework for importing electricity from other countries, and would welcome Malaysian companies to bid to supply electricity to Singapore.
