Abdul Rahim Jumaat, 44, a duty terminal manager tasked to oversee the loading and unloading of passenger baggage for incoming and outgoing flights from Changi Airport Terminal 2, allegedly pocketed bribes amounting to $5,080 between Nov 6, 2007 and April 29, 2008 from freelance airport agent Abdul Falik Abdul Latiff.
In exchange, he retrieved information on passengers who had no check-in baggage by accessing the Kris Check system used by Changi Airport.
This was done so the agent could use the unused baggage quota to help his foreign clients with excess baggage, doing away with paying for excess baggage.
Yesterday, Abdul Rahim, who had joined Singapore Airport Terminal Services in 1988, was charged in court with 12 counts of accepting bribes and 25 counts of computer misuse.
On each count of accepting bribes, Abdul Rahim could be fined up to $100,000 or jailed for up to five years, or both. On each count of computer misuse, he could be fined up to $5,000 or jailed for up to two years, or both.
