Rickshaw driver kills doctor over death of pregnant wife and unborn child

AN auto rickshaw driver in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu, was so upset over the loss of his wife and their unborn child that he hacked their doctor to death.

R. Mahesh, 28, barged into the clinic of Dr T. Sethulakshmi, 55, on Monday with his friends and hacked the doctor with a sickle, killing her on the spot.

Police said Mahesh used to take his wife, Nithya, 24, to the clinic for check-ups when she was pregnant.

However, on Dec 30, Nithya, who was then six months pregnant, was rushed to the clinic after complaining of severe abdominal pains.

The doctor later found that the foetus had died and insisted on a Caesarean section to save her.

When Nithya developed complications during the surgery, she was referred to a private hospital but died on the way.

Mahesh then accused the doctor of having misdiagnosed his wife's condition, leading to her death and the stillborn child.
