Thousands of needy students get free textbooks

The NTUC Fairprice's Share-A-Textbook Project, launched in 1983, aims to help needy students save on school expenses while encouraging recycling and promoting thrift.

This year, a record 320,000 books were donated by the community - a 40 per cent increase from last year.

Through this giveaway, families like that of housewife Genilza Fe Genilo, 42, whose secondary school-going children collected 20 textbooks and assessment books, managed to save at least $150.
