The 34-year-old pretended to borrow his victims' mobile phones on the pretext that his was low on battery, and made off with them, the police said. Most of these cases took place between August and December this year.

Following reports, the police established the suspect's identity and conducted an ambush on Dec 10. Police found $450 cash on the suspect, believed to be proceeds from the sames of the victims' mobile phones.

He will be charged in court for criminal breach of trust, which carries an imprisonment for a term which may extend to seven years, or with fine, or with both.
