Police classify these offences as 'intruding into the privacy of a woman'. They dealt with 579 cases last year, up from 365 in 2007. And this year is shaping up to be just as bad, with 307 cases in the first six months alone. Many cases involve offenders taking 'upskirt' photos or videos using small cameras or mobile phones. At least eight of these have made the news this year.
The most recent was last month, when a bank employee was jailed for a month for installing a pinhole camera under the desks of three women colleagues.
