Online buzz boosts cat adoption at Blessing Home Shelter

Ms Phyllis Aw, the shelter's founder, was reported as saying that an online appeal was launched soon after she found out that the lease on the shelter's premises, which expires in February, will not be renewed.

The 55-year-old, who has been running the shelter at a bungalow in Ponggol Seventeenth Avenue for eight years, declined to say why the landlord, whom she is "very close" to, chose not to renew the lease.

However, support rallied through social-media websites like Facebook has helped he find new homes for over 30 of its 165 cats in under a month.

More than 40 of Blessing Home Shelter's occupants have been released into the neighbourhoods they were found in, and new homes will have to be found for the remaining 85 or so mixed-breed felines very soon.

She hopes that the public can be educated on the importance of sterilising their cats, as this would help control the stray population and result in fewer abandoned animals.

Those keen on adopting a cat from Ms Aw can make a weekend appointment between 11am and 5pm.

They can call her on 9734-8329 or send her an e-mail message at phyllissunshine@gmail.com.
