Mercy Relief appeals for donations in aid of Storm Washi victims

Non-governmental organisation Mercy Relief is conducting fundraising for the victims of Storm Washi in south Philippines as basic needs are still in short supply and the outbreak of disease remains a threat in devastated areas.

The Singapore-born group deployed a four-man relief team to Cagayan de Oro within 48 hours from the appeal for international assistance made by the Philippines government and sent relief packs to 1,000 affected communities there.

Mercy Relief is also running a food and water programme in collaboration with local partners that will end on New Year's Day. The $12,000 5-day programme distributes 500 packs of freshly cooked food and bottled waters to 200 families everyday. Mercy Relief has expended $50,000 on relief activities on the ground since the disaster.
