On 30 Aug 2011 at about 9.20 am, a 47-year-old woman reported to the Police that her cash-card left in her vehicle in the vicinity of Jalan Tepong had been stolen.
Through extensive follow-up investigation and intensive enquiries, officers from Clementi Police Division managed to establish the identity of the suspect and he was subsequently placed under arrest in the vicinity of Bishan Street 12 on 31 Aug 2011 at about 1.00 am.
Several cash-cards were found in his unit and were seized as case exhibits. Investigations against the suspect are ongoing for his involvement in other theft cases.
The suspect will be charged in Court on 1 Sep 2011 for Theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum imprisonment term of 3 years, or a fine, or both.
Police AdvisoryEvery motorist can take steps to safeguard their vehicles against theft by adopting the following preventive measures:
- Park in well-lit areas;
- Install an anti-theft system;
- Remove cash-cards and other valuables for example laptops before leaving your vehicle, even if it is for a short while;
- Ensure that your vehicle has been secured properly. Wind up all windows and lock all doors of your vehicle; and
- Keep a lookout for suspicious characters in the vicinity before leaving. If you spot anyone tampering with other vehicles, take note of their appearance, attire, height, or any other distinctive physical features and call ‘999’ for assistance.
