BPL: Liverpool implodes, Black Cats teach the big boys, Man C drop points, Man U on fire

Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 Liverpool
Emmanuel Adebayor scored twice on his home debut as Tottenham put four unanswered goals past nine-man Liverpool to earn a morale-boosting first home win of the season.

Luka Modric opened the scoring with a blistering 20-yard strike before Charlie Adam picked up a second yellow card for a late foul on Scott Parker.

Martin Skrtel, who had a torrid afternoon at right-back thanks to Gareth Bale, was then sent off for two bookings in the second half before Jermain Defoe scored and Adebayor struck twice to wrap up an important win for Harry Redknapp's team against their rivals for a top-four finish.

Sunderland 4-0 Stoke City
The Black Cats took the lead after just five minutes when Titus Bramble fired in a low shot which embarrassed keeper Asmir Begovic as it squirmed from his grasp and over the line.

The home side increased their advantage with 11 minutes gone when Jonathan Woodgate got his head to David Vaughan's teasing cross ahead of Nicklas Bendtner and could only lift the ball over Begovic and into his own net to double the Black Cats' goal tally for the season.

Stoke fell further behind on 28 minutes when Bendtner played the ball inside to Craig Gardner, whose shot looped up off Robert Huth's desperate challenge and sailed over the helpless Begovic into the top corner.

The points were safe 13 minutes into the second half when Sebastian Larsson stepped up to curl a right-foot free-kick around the defensive wall and into the bottom corner with Begovic once again unable to intervene.

Fulham 2-2 Manchester City
City surrendered their 100 per cent start to the Barclays Premier League season as Fulham stunned them with a second-half comeback.

City looked set to equal their best ever opening to a top-flight campaign when Sergio Aguero's jaw-dropping start to life in England continued with the seventh and eighth goals of his five-match City career.

He made it 2-0 just 12 seconds after the break but Fulham refused to buckle, with Bobby Zamora and Danny Murphy earning them a deserved draw.

Manchester United 3-1 Chelsea
United went in front after eight minutes when Ashley Young floated a free-kick to the far post, where Chris Smalling rose unopposed to power home from six yards.

After 37 minutes Nani unleashed an unstoppable 25-yard shot that flew past Petr Cech and into the top corner.

The home side increased their advantage in the final minute of the half as Phil Jones led another surging raid and when John Terry's clearance bounced off Nani, Rooney was presented with a tap-in for his ninth goal of the season.

But just 30 seconds after the break Nicolas Anelka slid a pass through to Fernando Torres, who got behind Jones and slotted home with ease for only his second goal since that British record move from Liverpool in January.

There could have been plenty more goals as Rooney slipped as he took a penalty which flew wide. Nani and Rooney both hit the woodwork while Torres missed an open goal and Dimitar Berbatov squandered a late golden chance.
