Transport Minister wants answers after yet another SMRT security breach

Checks were conducted after an SMRT train was vandalised and pulled out of service on Wednesday morning.

The perimeter fencing at SMRT's depots had not been reinforced. Steel welded mesh fencing had not been fitted at the Bishan and Ulu Pandan depots.

In addition, the guards employed by the transport operator did not do their night patrols at the Bishan depot.

Minister of State for Transport Mrs Josephine Teo has asked SMRT to give a full account of the incident to the police and to the Land Transport Authority (LTA).

LTA had earlier expressed disappointment that SMRT had not improved its security measures after last year's incident where a Swiss national and an accomplice broke into the Changi depot and vandalised a train.
