Pearl, a Secondary 2 student, then commented on the picture by writing, "Don't act cute".
Jane reacted to the comment by spewing a string of angry vulgarities on Facebook at Pearl, which provoked a similar response from Pearl.
On April 4, the day after their war of words, Pearl went up to Jane in school and told her: "You are going to get it from me."
Jane told The New Paper: "She was smiling at me as she said it. It was so freaky."
Jane claimed she tried to avoid Pearl after school that day, but Pearl and another friend were waiting for her at the bus stop outside the school.

It is understood that Pearl and her friend dragged Jane from the bus stop to nearby Punggol Park and later to Block 402, Hougang Avenue 10.
A group of girls and one boy, believed to be Pearl's friends, trailed along behind them.
Jane claimed that along the way, Pearl and her friend pushed, kicked and slapped her.
At one point, when she tried to call for help, they grabbed and flung her phone to the ground.
She said that her attackers, worried about security cameras at the void deck of the block, decided to carry out the beating on the 13th storey.
They dragged Jane into the lift and, noticing another camera there, tried to assume a normal facade.
Once they got out of the lift, Pearl and four other girls started beating Jane. She alleged: "One of them held my throat so I couldn't even make a sound. I just stood there as they hit my head and stomach. They used umbrellas and some sort of bamboo sticks." She sustained swollen lips, a bruised body and a black eye after the beating.
When she came to, she found herself on the second storey of the block, where the beating continued.
After the attack, the girls took Jane to meet her boyfriend, who studies at a nearby school. They warned her not to say anything to him, but to lie "that five boys beat me up".
But sensing something amiss, the boyfriend called Jane's mother to tell her what happened. He also gave the mother Pearl's number. The outraged mother called Pearl to confront her.
Jane was taken to the hospital, where she was warded overnight for observation. Apart from sustaining a swollen lip and a bruised eye, she also had X-rays taken for her head injuries.
Jane's mother later made a police report.
It is believed that the police picked up several students after school on April 5 and took them to Ang Mo Kio Police Station for investigation. They were released at 9pm.
