SMRT told AsiaOne in a written statement that an east-bound train was disrupted due to a "train fault".

Some westbound trains were turned around at Queenstown MRT Station while a few eastbound trains were turned around at Outram Park MRT Station in an attempt to maintain train service.

Announcements were made in all stations and on affected trains to inform passengers of the delay.

A spokesman from SMRT said that the Operations Control Centre was informed that two passengers were feeling unwell.

They were both on board one of the trains near Tiong Bahru MRT Station.

An ambulance was activated to be on standby at Tiong Bahru Station and both passengers were sent to the hospital.

Citizen journalism website STOMP reported that an elderly man had suffered a heart attack while an old woman had collapsed in a train that was stalled between Tiong Bahru and Redhill station.

In an email, 'Framil' wrote that "the air-con in one of the cabins was not working and suddenly people were screaming and shouting because an old lady had fainted and collapsed.

"After a few minutes, another old man collapsed.

Eastbound train services resumed at 9.50am.

Passengers who were unable to complete their journeys due to the disruption can file a claim for refund at the Passenger Service Centre in any of SMRT's 68 SMRT stations within the next three working days.
