Netball: S'pore team to travel to Africa for training stint

SINGAPORE: The trip would provide the Singapore team with good practice as the city-state is in Pool C for the 2011 World Netball Championships, together with two African nations, South Africa and Botswana. Jamaica is the final team in the group.

But a bigger test awaits the Singapore team in April when they will be in Botswana, Africa for a week. A series of matches have been lined up for the Singaporeans as they gear up for the World Championships in July.

Kate Carpenter, the national team's coach, said: "We will have a dry run against South Africa, Botswana, so that's really good 'cause they are in our pool. But we will also have the opportunity to play Malawi as well."

The African trip will also allow the national coach to make a final selection. A month after the trip on June 6, she will announce the final 12 players who will don Singapore colours and represent the country at the World Championships.
