On 22 March 2011 at about 11.40 pm , a young couple, aged 16 and 19, were in the vicinity of Blk 501 Wellington Circle when they were accosted by two suspects, whose faces were covered with a handkerchief and T-shirt.
The suspects then started to assault the victims and snatched away one of the victims’ handphone valued at about $300/-. Both suspects fled the scene thereafter.
Through extensive follow up investigations, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division managed to establish the identities of the suspects. On 30 March 2011 at about 11.00 am , the first suspect was arrested along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 9. Within an hour, the second suspect was arrested in the vicinity of Benoi Road . The stolen handphone was also successfully recovered.
Investigations against both suspects are on-going. The offence of Robbery with Hurt carries a maximum of 20 years’ imprisonment and at least 12 strokes of the cane.
