On 17 February 2011 at about 1.40 am , Police were informed that a 42-year-old man had been assaulted and robbed by a group of unknown men at a bus stop along Woodlands Avenue 9. The victim sustained head injuries and was relieved of his haversack which contained his mobile phone and valuables, worth a total of about $200. However, he was unable to provide a detailed description of the suspects.
Nonetheless, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division were not deterred.
Following extensive follow-up investigations, they managed to establish the identity of a 28-year-old male suspect.
On 1 March 2011 at about 11.00 am , the said suspect was arrested at his residence in Woodlands Drive 60. Following the arrest, officers established the identities of four other accomplices and arrested them in the vicinity of Woodlands and Marsiling housing estates between 12.00 pm and 3.00 pm the same day. The victim's mobile phone was also recovered from the possession of one of the suspects.
The five suspects will be charged in Court on 3 March 2011 for the offence of Robbery with Hurt under Section 394 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum of 20 years imprisonment and at least 12 strokes of the cane.
