14 escape as KL-to-Singapore bus goes up in flames

Fourteen passengers on a bus from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore escaped a fiery death after they managed to get off the coach minutes before it was engulfed in flames on Saturday evening.

According to the New Straits Times, the bus encountered engine trouble near Pedas 90 minutes after leaving the capital. The driver stopped on the shoulder of the highway and saw that the engine had caught fire.

He then ordered the passengers - who included foreigners and children - out of the bus before the fire spread.

A group of 23 firemen in five fire engines arrived and put out the flames in 30 minutes. The Rembau Fire and Rescue Department is investigating the cause of the fire.
