On 20 Feb 2011 at about 2.30 pm , a 59 year-old woman was crossing an overhead pedestrian bridge along Clementi Avenue 6 when a man suddenly came from behind and snatched her handbag. The victim shouted for help as she gave chase and her cries caught the attention of Mr Siva Sangar, a security officer who was on duty at a nearby condominium. Mr Siva Saga came to her assistance and joined in the chase.
After a short chase, Mr Siva Sangar managed to detain the suspect along Clementi Avenue 6 with assistance from 2 other passers-by. The suspect was subsequently handed over to the Police who arrived shortly after. The victim’s handbag was recovered intact.
The suspect will be charged in Court on 22 Feb 2011 for the offence of Snatch Theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code Chapter 224, which carries a maximum jail term of seven years imprisonment, or with fine or both.
