Serangoon North Warehouse Housebreaker Arrested Through Good Investigative Work

On 13 February 2011 at about 4.10 pm , Police were alerted to a case of break-in at a warehouse located in the vicinity of Serangoon North Avenue 5. The suspect was believed to have gain access into the premise by smashing the glass panel and forcing open the main door; and had made away with three laptops valued at about $3000/- in total.

Through follow-up investigations and good detective work, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division managed to establish the suspect’s identity. On 14 February 2011 at about 6.00 pm , the officers arrested the suspect in the vicinity of Blk 565 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10. The three stolen laptops were subsequently seized from a second hand-dealer in Ang Mo Kio whom the suspect is believed to have sold the laptops to.

The suspect will be charged in Court No. 26 on 16 February 2011 for Housebreaking and Theft by Day under Section 454 of the Penal code Chapter 224 which carries a maximum of 10 years imprisonment.

Investigations against the 28-year-old second hand dealer are currently on-going. Under the law, a person who dishonestly receives or retains any stolen property, knowing or having reason to believe the property to be stolen property, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 5 years, or with fine, or with both.
