11 trapped in NEX Mall lift for 45 min

STOMPer Rykiel and ten others were trapped in a lift at NEX mall for 45 minutes with no answer on the intercom when they called for help. The lights and fan even went off for five minutes at one point.

The passengers eventually had to climb through the doors to exit the lift, as it had become stuck between two floors.

Said the STOMPer in an email:

"My intention of posting this is for awareness and NEX Mall's management need to answer this issue. When we had tried to use the intercom in the lift, no one had answered the call.

"It was a scary experience. Eleven of us including a pregnant woman were stuck inside NEX Mall lift No.1 for 45 mins.

"And during that period they were without ventilation and lights for five minutes.

"Oxygen was scarce and I had no choice but to call the SCDF for help. Guess what the security guard said when the doors finally opened? He said that it was normal for the lift to break down.

"I really can't imagine what would have happened if the lift had moved while one of us was still climbing halfway through the door."
