Thief Who Posed As Police Officer Arrested

In the past month, Police received several reports of theft involving female victims, aged between 35 and 49 years old, who had their personal belongings stolen by a man who had posed as a Police officer. In these cases, the suspect would flash a pass and identify himself as a Police officer, before requesting to check on the belongings of the victims. After the unsuspecting victims had handed over their belongings such as mobile phones and cash, the suspect would make his getaway. In a case reported on 26 December 2010, a 35-year-old female China national lost cash of about S$ 220 and RMB 31,900 to the suspect.

Following the reports, officers from Central Police Division conducted extensive enquiries and follow-up investigations; and managed to establish the identity of the suspect. On 16 January 2011 at about 9.00 am , the suspect was arrested at Woodlands Checkpoint as he was returning to Singapore.
