Singapore's MFA response to Egypt unrest

SINGAPORE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs(MFA) has issued a warning against travel to Egypt in light of the recent unrest.

In response to media queries on the situation in Egypt, the MFA Spokesman said: "There have been a number of large-scale protests which occurred in various parts of Egypt on 28 January 2011, including in parts of downtown Cairo. The Egyptian Government had announced yesterday a curfew from 6 pm to 7 am (local time) effective yesterday in Cairo, Alexandria and Suez.

"In view of the latest development and fluid situation, MFA would strongly recommend that Singaporeans defer all non-essential travel to Egypt."


The spokesman also advised Singaporeans in Egypt to be vigilant and to be tuned in to the news. They were also advised to eRegister immediately if they have not already done so at: http://eregister.mfa.gov.sg/.
