He was detained by a member of the public after he had assaulted and unsuccessfully tried to rob a woman of her handbag at the void deck of Blk 76A Redhill Road on Tuesday.
The woman's cries for help attracted the attention of a passerby, Mr Mohamed Rozali, who chased after the fleeing suspect, detained him and handed him to the Police.
The suspect faces imprisonment of between five and 20 years if found guilty.
He will also receive at least 12 strokes of the cane.
