ONCE again, the 1st Commando Battalion has won the Singapore Armed Forces' Best Combat Unit award. It was the seventh win in a row for the Red Berets, and the 24th time the unit has won top honours in the competition's 41-year history.
The annual Best Unit Competition grades SAF units on such criteria as battle readiness, physical fitness, marksmanship, manpower issues, logistics readiness and safety.
The last time the Commandos failed to finish tops in the competition came in 2003, when they were barred after being found guilty of doctoring their results. The 1st Guards Battalion took the honours that year. MORE
