Academy Award-nominated actor Stanley Tucci has joined the cast of the superhero saga Captain America: The First Avenger. Tucci will play Dr Abraham Erskine, who in the Marvel Comics series was a scientist behind a super-soldier programme that gave the title hero his powers.
Due in theatres July next year, Captain America stars Fantastic Four's The Human Torch Chris Evans in the title role. Samuel L Jackson (reprising his Nick Fury role in Iron Man 2), Tommy Lee Jones (Men In Black), Aussie Hugo Weaving (The Matrix) and Briton Hayley Atwell (Brideshead Revisited) round up the supporting cast.
Mamma Mia!'s Dominic Cooper is also rumoured to have been cast as Howard Stark, father of Iron Man Tony Stark.
