LONDON - Air Asia boss Tony Fernandes wants to throw his weight behind moves to bring MotoGP to Singapore, and is even keen to have his airline back the race in the Republic when the Changi Motorsports Hub is ready at the end of next year.
It is no idle boast, for Fernandes, whose sponsorship of the world championship's most prestigious race at Silverstone this weekend makes him a VVIP client of MotoGP's commercial rights holder, Dorna Sports.
Speaking exclusively to MediaCorp at Lord's Cricket Ground before a press conference for this Sunday's Air Asia British Grand Prix for motorbikes, Fernandes said he will help Singapore get a deal if asked to.
"Without a doubt, I will help Singapore get MotoGP. We are sponsoring the British Grand Prix, which is the flagship event for Dorna Sports.
"Obviously, this means we have a good relationship with them and if Singapore wants us to help in any way, then yes, we will help," he said. MORE
