UN resolution for full Israeli withdrawal from Palestine defeated

A draft resolution on Palestinian statehood was defeated in a United Nations (UN) Security Council vote on Tuesday (Dec 30).

The resolution called for a full Israeli withdrawal from the Palestinian territories to be completed no later than the end of 2017.

Security Council member Jordan had earlier requested the vote on the draft resolution that sets a 12-month deadline.

This is to reach a final peace deal with Israel, paving the way to a Palestinian state.
